From submission to publication

Every manuscript is handled on its own merits, but most research papers follow a similar pathway—from submission and editorial assessment, through peer review, to editing, production, and publication. Publishing in the OncoDaily Medical Journal (ODMJ) means working with an editorially independent, oncology-focused journal committed to rigorous evaluation, ethical publishing, and clear, clinically meaningful reporting. Throughout the process, we aim to be fair, transparent, and responsive to authors while maintaining the integrity of the scientific record.

Submission

Authors submit a complete manuscript prepared according to ODMJ requirements. Submissions should include the full text, tables, and figures, as well as all required declarations (for example, conflicts of interest and ethics approvals, when applicable).

See Submission Guidelines.

Initial editorial assessment

All submissions are screened by ODMJ editors for scope, novelty and relevance, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, and completeness of reporting. Some manuscripts are declined at this stage to allow authors to pursue a more suitable venue without delay.

External peer review

Manuscripts that pass initial assessment are sent to independent external reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Research manuscripts may also be evaluated by a statistical reviewer when appropriate. Reviewers are asked to assess scientific rigor, clarity, transparency, and any potential ethical or integrity concerns.

See Peer Review.

Editorial discussion and decision

After reviews are returned, the handling editor evaluates the reports and the manuscript in full. When needed, manuscripts are discussed internally to ensure consistent standards and a balanced decision. The editor may decide to decline, invite revision, or accept.

Revision

If revision is invited, authors respond to reviewer and editor comments and submit an updated version with a clear point-by-point response. ODMJ may send revised manuscripts back to reviewers when changes are substantial or when confirmation is needed.

Acceptance and technical editing

Once accepted, manuscripts undergo scientific and technical editing to improve clarity, consistency, and completeness of reporting. This stage also includes checks that required statements (ethics, funding, conflicts, data/code availability when relevant) are present and that tables/figures and references meet ODMJ standards.

Production and proofs

The article is then prepared for publication (typesetting/layout, figure preparation as needed, and proofreading). Authors receive proofs to review for accuracy and approve within the requested timeframe.

Publication

Final articles are published online with a citable identifier and made openly available under ODMJ’s open access terms. ODMJ may work with authors to coordinate publication timing when a paper is linked to a major conference presentation, when feasible and appropriate.

See Open Access.

After publication

ODMJ supports post-publication dialogue (for example, Correspondence) and will act when necessary to correct the record through corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions, in line with our editorial policies.
