The right to health, health equity, and social justice depend on ensuring that the best evidence can be read, used, and built upon as widely as possible. Open access is a central part of open science, making research freely available to readers worldwide, while supporting scientific collaboration, scrutiny, and constructive debate.
ODMJ is an open-access journal. This page explains our approach to open access publishing, including article processing charges (APCs) and the support available to help authors publish open access. Our mission is to publish strong oncology science for better care and better lives. Supporting authors to publish open access is an essential part of that mission.
Article processing charges (APCs)
To support the costs of publication, including editorial assessment, external peer review administration, technical checks, copyediting, typesetting and graphics, online hosting, archiving, and promotion, ODMJ applies an APC to accepted manuscripts. The decision to accept or reject a manuscript is based on editorial assessment and peer review, and is never related to an author’s ability to pay. Editors do not have access to payment information during manuscript handling. Payment processes are managed separately after acceptance.
Waivers and additional discounts
We are committed to publishing all manuscripts accepted for publication and believe that the ability to pay must never be a barrier to publication. ODMJ therefore offers discounts and waivers for authors who do not have institutional or funding body support for APCs.
If you are unable to pay the full APC, please contact the editorial office after acceptance and provide:
- the funder(s) supporting your research (if any);
- What routes have you explored to obtain APC funding, and
- How much are you able to pay (if partial payment is possible)?
Requests are assessed fairly and confidentially, to ensure that high-quality work can be published open access regardless of authors’ financial circumstances.
