Abstract
Introduction: Dinutuximab is a monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of pediatric neuroblastoma. As a high-risk medication, its preparation and administration require specialized training to ensure patient safety. The objective was to develop and implement a comprehensive training program for nurses on the preparation and administration of Dinutuximab.
Methodology: A training program was developed and conducted for pediatric oncology nurses. The program included a didactic session, a skills laboratory session, and a competency evaluation. The program covered topics such as Dinutuximab’s mechanism of action, dosing and administration, preparation and handling, and management of side effects.
Results: A total of 20 nurses completed the training program. The post-training evaluation showed a significant improvement in the nurses’ knowledge and skills related to the preparation and administration of Dinutuximab. All nurses demonstrated competency in preparing and administering the medication.
Conclusion: The training program was effective in preparing pediatric oncology nurses for the safe preparation and administration of Dinutuximab. The program can be replicated in other institutions to ensure the safe administration of this high-risk medication.
